Walt Disney Unit Project
We will be starting a Walt Disney Unit in our classes. We will be reading biographies about Walt Disney, and looking at various aspects of his
life and accomplishments. We will work on creating a Disney timeline and doing additional reading comprehension activities. You,
individually, will also be creating a project using ideas listed below.
The projects will be displayed at Freeland Elementary’s “Gallery Night” on May 10th. You should be sure the projects can be easily displayed and
are pleasing to the eye. The projects should have a good amount of visual information, but not huge amounts of writing. You may pick one of the
projects listed below or create one of your own. I will have a sign-up sheet. More than 2 people may not sign up for the same number. Please
know the number of the activity you are signing up for, or write a note explaining your project idea (if you choose to come up with your own
idea).
Some ideas for the type of project: poster, diagrams, maps, collages, journal, make-your-own book, shoe box or cereal box display, travel
brochure (that you make yourself), drawings, cut-out pictures (from books, brochures, internet, etc.)

Disneyland or Disney World timeline
Map of any of the Disney parks (student-created – not printed from the internet)
Animals at Animal Kingdom – pictures, descriptions, how they’re taken care of – You can choose 1 or 2 animals, or a group (like all
monkeys), do a tour guide of the Safari, or whatever .. Be creative!
Working at a Disney park – research types of jobs, tell which one you would like to do and why. Would you like to be an animator, a
character, or a park worker? Why or why not?
Epcot – geography – Pick one or two of the countries in the World Showcase. Draw or print pictures – tell how the Epcot country
represents the real country
Epcot – science – Pick one or more of the attractions in Future World that are related to science – the land, technology, space, etc.
Draw or print pictures and explain what the attraction is all about.
Disney movies – Choose one – Briefly tell the plot, setting, characters, and theme – (plot mountain). Print or draw a picture. You
must sign up for a movie. I will allow 2 people per class to do the same movie (and you must work on the project on your own). If I
already have 2 people, you will need to choose a different movie.
Disney characters – draw or print pictures. Tell the characters’ traits and what movie, tv show or comic strip they are in. Would you
like to be like him/her? Why or why not?
Math –
a. How many boy/girl Disney characters are there? Find other information you could use in this comparison – Venn diagram,
pie chart, bar graph, etc.
b. How many rides/attractions are in each park? (compare)
Disney music – Pick a Disney song. Print the words. Explain the meaning, look at rhyme scheme, stanzas, meter, etc. – scary songs,
happy songs, etc.
Display or draw pictures and explain Mickey Mouse through the years - how he changed, etc.
Create your own comic strip – Create your own characters, or copy and paste pictures of Mickey or another Disney character(s) –
Make a story board where you provide the story in speech bubbles.
Food at Disney – Make a menu, create your own Disney-themed foods, for example. Or tell about your favorite meal or other food at a
Disney park – include pictures and detailed descriptions.
Souvenirs at Disney – same as above – You could even make a little catalog showing which Disney souvenirs are available at your
pretend Disney store.
Create a journal if you’ve visited a Disney park – tell what you did and include pictures and/or drawings.
These are some suggestions I came up with. Please be creative, do great work, and have lots of fun with this project. It should not take you an
extremely long time, but it has the promise to be so awesome!. I can’t wait to see our hallway and classroom with all our great displays!
