SOLVING EQUATIONS BY
MULTIPLYING
VOCABULARY

Inverse Operations – operations that undo
each other. For example, division will
undo multiplication.
SOLVING EQUATIONS


When you solve equations, your goal is to
get the variable alone on one side of the
equation with everything else on the other
side.
The opposite of multiplication is division
Example 1

3x = 27
When there is no operation sign between the number and
the variable, it means that they are being multiplied. So, to
get rid of it, we must divide the numbers.
3x = 27
=÷3
x =
9
NOTE


Whenever the original problem shows
multiplication, use division to get rid of the
numbers.
Make sure you take the number by itself
first and divide by the number that was
connected to the variable.
