Describe Progress:
2013-14
Energy efficient lighting systems were installed in the library on the Moore County campus and in
portions of both buildings on the Fayetteville campus. New roofs were installed on the Ingram and
Forrester buildings on the Moore County campus that will result in energy savings.
2012-13
Geothermal Pump in New Smyrna Building
A geothermal heat pump was installed in the new classroom/office building opening fall 2013 at Smyrna
Center. Though the installation price of the geothermal system was more expensive than that of an airsource system of the same heating and cooling capacity, the additional costs will be returned in energy
savings in five to seven years.
Energy Efficient Doors and Windows in Simon Hall
The Simon Hall building was originally built in the late 1960’s and all of the doors and windows were
constructed using single pane glass. We replaced all of the doors except one in 2011 and this year we
are replacing the last door along with replacing about 50% of the windows in the Simon Hall building.
The new doors and windows are double pane insulated glass which will improve the operating energy
savings for this building.
2011-12
