By reviewing the events that lead up to the test as well as the taking of the test, perhaps you will be able to make some adjustments before the next test. 1. What grade did you make on this test? 2. Did you do the homework assigned in Chapters 1 & 2? 3. Did you do the Lab Quizzes on MyMathLab before taking the test? How many did you do? What were your grades? 4. 5. If you had difficulty with your homework within this period, what did you do? Circle or BOLD all that apply. Nothing, skipped it Called a friend Called my instructor Went to see my instructor Went to the math lab Watched a video Used the MyMathLab website List Professor _____________ office hours: What time(s) could you get in to see Professor ____________ during office hours if you’re having difficulties? If your schedule prevents you from seeing your Professor during office hours, have you asked to make an appointment to see him/her at some other time? YES 6. Revised 05/2010 98936004 Reviewed regularly One way to prepare for a test is with the use of Study Cards: Select problems (with instructions) from the book or lab to review. Make a card for each problem by writing the instruction and question on one side and the answer on the back. Shuffle the cards and then work the problems. Perhaps word the instructions differently for a specific type of problem. Another method is to study with a group: Divide up the sections covered. Each person writes 5 questions (with instructions) over their sections. Meet in person to share your questions or e-mail the questions to one another and then set up a conference time in a chat room to go over the answers. 8. The following chart is designed to aid you in determining a possible reason for missing problems on the test. Problem types. Check the box next to any type of problem you missed and answer the questions. As you worked through the examples in the book, did you take notes to refer back to? Did you do the assigned problems in each section? Did you review this prior to the test? Why do you think you might have missed these problems? Real number system Simplify numeric expressions using the standard order of operations Simplify numeric expressions with absolute value Evaluate an expression Distributing Translating word phrases to expressions and equations Simplify algebraic expressions Solve equations Solve equations with fractions Solve absolute value equations Solve literal equations Solve linear Inequalities After reflecting on your answers to the questions in this assignment, write your answers (in complete sentences and proper English grammar) to the following: 9. What worked for you and what didn’t when preparing for the test? How do you plan to prepare differently for the next test? Be specific. 10. What worked for you and what didn’t while taking the test?
