Role Description Position Title: Student Coordinator Conversation and EXCElL Programmes (Coordinator) Position Location: Student Learning Support Service The Coordinator must work in the best interests of the University including its community of students and staff. Purpose of the Organisational Unit The role of the Student Learning Support Service is to provide academic skills development programmes to support the learning needs of students at Victoria University of Wellington. Role Purpose and Scope The role of the Coordinator is to promote Conversation and EXCElL programmes recruit student volunteers are recruited and to plan and deliver Conversation Programme. Both programmes are designed to foster an understanding of New Zealand culture and language in international students and to enable New Zealand and international students to work together to this end. Key Result Areas Effective promotion Conversation and EXCElL programmes Effective recruitment of local student volunteers for Conversation and EXCElL programmes Effective management of local student volunteers Training local student volunteers for EXCElL Planning and facilitating Conversation sessions. Challenges The Coordinator will operate in an environment where there may be significant demands on their time in busy periods. The Coordinator will be required to work with students from many different cultural backgrounds and will need to be alert to a wide range of linguistic and cultural responses. Key Relationships The Coordinator reports to the Conversation Coordinator and the EXCElL Coordinator, Student Learning Support Service. The Coordinator will develop and maintain excellent relationships with: Local Student Volunteers Relevant Student Learning Support Service staff Students attending the Conversation and EXCElL Programmes Other VUW staff working on the EXCElL Programme
