Assignment 4
I analyze the Top 20 with the BNC-SPOKEN word list,
because the TED Talk is a kind of talk show. I chose some key
words from the result,
The first word is “Think”. The frequency is 157, the
keyness is 191.311, and it was be used in 18 of the Top 20 TED
Talk. Interestedly, “think” is not the function words, but the
frequency is higher than many function words, so I chose it.
Through the result, we can see that when speakers give a
speech they prefer to use the word in many situations, whenever
the speakers are thinking, describing, and interacting with the
audience in the speech.
The second word is “Brain”. The frequency is 80, the
keyness is 93.615, and it was be used in 13 of the Top 20 TED
Talk.
It means many speakers often talk about the “brain” on
different areas in the speech, and the most auditors like the
related topics. People like the training, developing and changing
of the brain to diagnose in life with a new way. Every thinking is
from the brain, it control personal behavior and idea. So it is a
good headstream to talk about many topics whether be
happiness or be better.
The third word is “Feel”. The frequency is 69, the keyness
is 79.761, and it was be used in 12 of the Top 20 TED Talk.
Through the Concordance, we can see that most of the
collocates of the “feel” is “you”, the word is usually used to
interact with the audience to let them think and feel what the
speakers said to give them more imagination.
