A marketing supervisor calls a marketing representative into her office to discuss finding a replacement for a coworker. Nancy: Donna gave notice last week. We’ll need to fill her position. Craig: On no! My workload will double! How much notice did she give? Nancy: She gave two weeks. That gives us time to hire and train a replacement. Craig: More work! Nancy: No one will get stuck with more work if we quickly find a replacement! Now, help me outline the requirements for a job ad Nancy: Craig: OK. “Able to skip lunch, work overtime, meet impossible deadlines—” Craig: 好。 Nancy: No one will respond to that ad. Anyway, we’ll require a four-year degree, preferable in marketing. Craig: And experience! Nancy: We’ll require two years’ experience. What else would you suggest? Craig: The person needs to be outgoing, very organized, and able to work independently. Nancy: Right. You don’t want to have to hold his or her hand all the time. Craig: Exactly, that just means more work for me! Nancy: It won’t be! Now, go and type up a job ad for me. Craig: Ah-ha! Extra work already! Placing a job Ad Narrator: A meeting is held with the human resources director to discuss filling an upcoming vacancy. Robert: You know, we could save money by not filling the position. Craig: Nooo! Craig: 不! Robert: I’m only kidding. Now, do you have a list of job requirements and duties? And the salary range. Nancy: Here’s the list. The salary is thirty-five to forty-five thousand a year, depending on experience. Craig: what?! I don’t make that much 什麼? Nancy: Oh…and I’m thinking of giving Craig a raise if he does a good job finding a new person. Robert: How do you want to advertise the opening? Nancy: I’ve had good responses from the Fortune City Times’ help-wanted ads. Robert: All right. I suggest posting the ad Friday through Monday. Nancy: OK. Friday’s the big day for job ads. Robert: And job seeker will certainly check the paper over the weekend. Craig: Let’s post on the Internet, too. We’ll get a better response. I’ll post the ads. I know some good sites. Robert: Such concern for the company; Craig! I’m impressed. Nancy: Don’t be fooled, he’s just lazy. If we don’t replace Donna, he know he’ll have to work harder. The interview 採訪 Narrator: A supervisor is sitting at her desk talking to a coworker about potential job applicants. Nancy: I have chosen sixteen candidates. The first round of interviews is tomorrow. Craig: The first round? Nancy: Right. We’ll choose the four best candidates and have them come back for a second interview. Craig: That’s when you’ll talk money and other details Nancy: Right. I’ll need to reserve the small conference room for tomorrow and Thursday. Craig: I hope we find someone good. I don’t want extra work. Nancy: And I’ll need twenty application forms… and I have a list of questions to ask. Craig: Let me take a look…Question one. Do you worry about doing extra work? Whew. I’m glad you didn’t ask me that before you hired me! (The next day) 隔天 Applicant: I finished filling out my application form. Craig: Good. Please wait here. Our marketing supervisor will be with you shortly. Nancy: Well, I have four candidates, and one looks really good. Craig: Better than me? Nancy:(Jokingly)As a matter of fact I think a couple of the candidates would make great replacements for you! Craig: well, I guess I shouldn’t have tried so hard to find good candidates!
