BSTRACT

 This paper studies the application of motivation for students’ vocabulary acquisition in multimedia environment.

 本文研究的動機是學生在多媒體環境下詞彙習得中的

應用。

BSTRACT

 Firstly, it gives a brief introduction of the current situation of vocabulary learning and teaching in China and abroad, and then introduces vocabulary acquisition with CALL and CALT,together with psychological and multimedia hardware and software foundation for vocabulary learning.

 首先,它提供的詞彙學習和教學在中國和國外目前的

情況的簡要介紹,然後介紹 CALL(電腦輔助語言學

習)和CALT(電腦輔助語言教學)詞彙習得,加上心

理和多媒體硬件和軟件的詞彙學習的基礎。

 For most students in learning a second language, the first headache or difficulty they meet is usually remembering words.

Vocabulary is an important part of a language as well as the basis of linguistic abilities.

 The size of vocabulary is an important standard to evaluate a learner’s English level. Without adequate vocabulary knowledge,a second language learner’s conversational fluency and reading comprehension will meet difficulties.

 According to the Basic Requirements in the

College English Syllabus (1999), Chinese university students should have a vocabulary of 4,200 words and be able to read ordinary

English newspapers and magazines and communicate in English.

大學生應該有一個4200字的詞彙,並能閱讀一般的英

語報紙和雜誌用英語溝通。

 Most Chinese students have been learning for at least 6 years from their junior high school, but they are still not able to express themselves adequately and fluently in English or understand what people say easily. The problem may lie in the traditional teaching method.

 With the emergence and popularity of Computer-

Assisted Language Learning and Teaching (CALL

&CALT), many English teachers have shifted their focus from teacher-centered or bookcentered instruction to students-centered or classroom-based instruction.

及,許多英語教師已經從以教師或課本為主轉移到以

學生或課堂教學為主的教學。

 With respect to the new information technology, language teachers may use computers and

Internet in language teaching. There seems little doubt that CALL and CALT is presently the most innovative area in the practice of foreign or second language teaching and learning.

會運用到電腦和網路。毫無疑問,CALL和CALT是目前

最創新的區域在外語或第二語言教學和學習的方法。

 The use of communicative strategies seems to suggest that the way of learning vocabulary does not merely involve memorizing and monotonous practicing, but various other activities to enhance understanding and usage.

 For most Chinese English learners, the frequently used way in vocabulary learning is by memorizing.However, multimedia technology in English learning and teaching can help students improve the results of memorizing words (NAN Chao, 2005).

 Because the application of multimedia technology in English teaching supplies various video, picture and literal material for students, they can use both the auditory and visual channels. It is similar to the natural ways to obtain information.

 Many researchers (GUI Shi-chun, 2004; Ellis,

1995) have proved that learning material which attracted students’ longtime attention would have good effects of the memory of new words.

 Students will learn more when information is adopted by a variety of learning channels than when only a single channel of learning is used.

Nowadays, with the help of multimedia technology, one particular word can be learned through sound, picture and even threedimensional animation.

 For most English learners, they may feel frustrated and boring when reciting vocabulary.

Interest is the best teacher. If an instructor uses appropriate vocabulary games to help students to learn, study may get the twice result with half the effort.

對於大多數英語學習者,他們可能會感到沮喪和乏味

時背誦的詞彙。興趣是最好的老師。如果教師使用恰

ONCLUSION

 This paper presents the feasibility of enlarging one’s vocabulary through the enhancement of word recognition ability under the condition of multimedia environment. It proposes that enhancement of word recognition ability is of vital importance for the enlargement of one’s vocabulary.

 本文介紹了通過多媒體環境條件下的認字能力增強擴

大自己的詞彙量的可行性。建議加強認字能力是至關

重要的詞彙量的擴大。

CONCLUSION

 Vocabulary acquisition under multi-media environment can improve the vocabulary teaching efficiency and extend students’ vocabulary, and it is also of great help in improving students’ English level as a whole, for the teaching-software usually carries the voices of native-speakers with rich context.

大學生的詞彙,它也有很大的幫助,提高學生的整體
