Pt nanoparticles will be prepared in aqueous solution by reducing Pt
+4
to Pt with ethanol and employing poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrroliodine (PVP, M w
= 40,000) as protective agent. The Pt nanoparticle solution mixed with glucose oxidase (GOx) and Nafion will be cast on the surface of glassy carbon electrodes to manufacture nanostructured Pt glucose biosensors. The nanostructured Pt glucose biosensors will be characterized by electrochemical methods, investigating the electrochemical activity of the sensors toward glucose oxidation, the biosensor linear range, and the biosensor lifetime. Parameters, such as the amount and size of
Pt nanoparticles; the amount of GOx and Nafion, which affect the electrochemical properties and the lifetime of the nanostructured Pt glucose biosensors will be studied to find an optimum condition for biosensor preparation. The electrochemical properties and the lifetime of the as-prepared biosensors will be compared with those of commercial glucose biosensors.
