An Insight I was a mean kid; the way I talk to my mother was completely outrageous. My family was a little different from others. My father works in Vietnam since I was familiar with human affairs. My mother is the one that took care of me and my younger brother. Ever since I graduated from primary school, my temper had become very unusual. I answered my mom back unreasonably, and I enjoyed it honestly. I was young, and I thought I was a smart ass as I answered my mother back that rapidly. I considered it was a manifestation of being smart. However, I soon found out it was a terrible mistake. I was an exchange student in U.S.A. It was on Christmas vacation, we drove down from Michigan to Florida to pay my host grandparents a visit. We arrived at night; I suppose everyone was exhausted after a thirtyhour drive. We were about to go for a dinner. My host dad; Scott said. “Let’s go get some seafood, what do you say, Jason? I suppose you have lots of seafood back in Taiwan.” I was so happy about it. I had been four straight months without fresh seafood. By the time we were about to start off, we found out my host brother; Chris, was still in the room. Chris was a kid with lots of problems, he was about my age, but he doesn’t have a driver license. Which is really odd as a teenager in this country. He prefers to stay at home instead of going out, worse of all, he complains a lot. Dad walked in the room and said, “Chris, everyone is waiting for you out there. Why don’t you put your clothes on, so we could go to the Red Lobster?” Chris looked up from his laptop and said, “I’m not going for that, I don’t like seafood, you all could just go without me.” Scott couldn’t take it anymore. He took the laptop away from Chris and said, “I don’t think it is a good idea that you are playing the laptop while I’m talking to you.” Chris shouted out, “What makes you think you could take that away from me? I want my own space, get out of this room.” Scott said, “I bought this laptop. You don’t want to work; you don’t want to fit in the group, and you are telling me you want your own space? You can’t always pick something you like to eat. You can’t sit in the house all day and do nothing. I’m taking this away with me.” Chris said, “I’ll have to fight you if you do that.” Scott was so mad, he slammed Chris in the face and they stared to fight. Mom; Becky, stood up to the door and asked them to stop, but no one wants to give in. It was a mess; two grown man were fighting; mom was crying; grandpa and grandma were just sat there and shacked their heads like they knew this would coming. I was shocked and also thinking, the circumstance was kind of familiar. We end up ordered some fast food for dinner. Mom and grandma kept saying sorry, that I am not suppose to saw this. When I was in the shower later that night, I kept thinking of Becky’s face with tear on it. I suddenly realize how painful to watch two people you love were fighting each other. I couldn’t imagine how deep I hurt my mother these few years. In the December monthly report that I send back to Taiwan; I wrote this story and tell everyone not to do the same thing as I did, because I would never hurt someone I love again.
