How Are Ballpoint Pens Made?
Ballpoint pens are made by a variety of components, including
plastic, metal and ink. In most ballpoint pens, the writing spheres are
made from brass, but it can also be replaced with other materials, such
as steel or tungsten. In fact, a significant amount of plastic is contained in
a ballpoint pen, including the push button, ink cartridge, cap and tip.
During the assembly process, the metallic writing sphere is first
inserted into a cavity at the tip of the ink cartridge. The ink cartridge is
then placed in an injector, which fills the cartridge with ink. After that,
the pen's cap and top are attached. Finally, the finished pens are
cleaned, packaged and shipped.
