Even if you have a TAG, the actual school you want, say UC Davis, may be full in your major, or if school is impacted your TAG will be honored at a different UC, say UC Merced or another that is available. 2nd Session – UC System Advisor - See attached PDF with helpful links to UC Information Sheet Below General Info: - Each UC uses the same matrix of 14 admission criteria although the different campuses prioritize them differently Depending on what campus you are looking at, you may need to apply to a particular college within that university or the whole university itself Some UC’s and Colleges within the respective UC Campus will allow you to come in Undeclared without penalty but that varies from campus to campus and major to major - see charts listed on reference below CSU Campuses have more obligations to serve their local community college feeders whereas UC has none. Personal Statement Info: - - Brainstorm with family about life and what to include in essay Note Services and Awards – no acronyms used here, they won’t know what the award is and how significant it is if you don’t describe it briefly Courses that demonstrate outside interests Any college prep activities you have participated in such as College Sunday or College Prep Nights Show extracurricular activities, work experience and volunteer experiences that have meaning, show who you are Show how you spend time outside of class, sports, research projects etc. – again that are relevant Personal statement is NOT an essay, it’s an interview, deep and personal, what makes you you. They are looking for level of depth, not breadth. Stick to one topic, a story with details, like writing an autobiography in three minutes, write your life story. She recommends writing it three times as that is usually how many times it takes for students to start getting as deep as they need to get. Write about what you have learned, how it’s moving your life forward. Do your application first, then think about questions it’s raising and use that to write your personal statement No creative writing, poems, clichés etc. Not too casual, you are addressing an admission officer so it should be a little formal Include an email address that you will be checking consistently
