3. Listen and Understand Track 23 (Student CD Track 7) Page 18 A: So, good morning, everyone. Welcome to Breakfast with J & J, and Happy New Year! I’m Janet, your breakfast show host, along with my handsome co-host, James. Hi, James. Welcome back and Happy New Year. B: Thanks, Janet. Same to you. It’s great to be back, though I must say it was nice to have a week off. So tell me, Janet, how was your vacation? A: It was like a dream, James. B: Oh? Sounds interesting. Do tell. A: Well, I went to Los Angeles. B: Mm. So what happened? Why the big smile? A: Well, I just did all the usual sightseeing things, you know, the Universal Studios tour, shopping on Rodeo Drive. But on my last night you’ll never guess what happened. B: I can’t imagine. What? A: Well, my sister and I went for a walk in Hollywood. B: Your sister? Are you sure it wasn’t your boyfriend? Do you believe it was her sister, ladies and gentlemen? A: Of course it was my sister. Now let me get on with my story. B: Go ahead. A: Well, we decided to have dinner in this restaurant just off Hollywood Boulevard. Anyway, we had finished our meal, and we were just leaving the restaurant and guess who walked in. B: Your boyfriend? A: Stop it! No, it was Brad Pitt! I couldn't believe my eyes. He is my favorite actor. And he was really friendly. He smiled and said hello, so I did something I never thought I would dare to do. I walked up to him and said— B: “Do you want to be my boyfriend?” A: Oh, you’re hopeless. All right then, James, what about you? Are you ready to tell our listeners about your vacation? You should see his tan, ladies and gentlemen. B: Yeah. Well, I went to Hawaii for my vacation. A: And? B: And what? I just went sightseeing. A: Just sightseeing? I can’t imagine that. B: Yeah. You know, a bus trip around the island one day. Visiting a pineapple plantation another day. That was really interesting, all the beautiful … you know, pineapple plants. Then we went to see the big active volcano. You know, the famous one. A: Mm. “The famous one.” Right. Very interesting, but I have a feeling there’s something you’re not telling us. B: OK. Well ...I was on the beach one day and guess what happened. A: Ah. At last! B: I met someone. A: I knew it! OK. What’s this new girlfriend’s name? B: Well, you can meet her yourself next week. She’s coming here. A: Well, time for another song, everyone, while I find out all the details about the new girlfriend for you. By the way, James, where is that volcano you saw? B: Um … it’s near … um … it’s not far from … um … A: Mm. That’s what I thought. OK, here’s that new song you’ve all been waiting to hear …
