CSO Meeting September 26, 2013, 3:00 p.m. SAC 115 Welcome – Theresa Chrisman welcomed everyone to the CSO meeting and introduced the new CSO Officers, Theresa Chrisman, Chair; Elizabeth Weldy, Chair Elect; Kristina Keener, Treasurer; Sara Stokes, Secretary; and Daniel Deyarmin, Web Secretary. CSO Updates Theresa Chrisman To increase CSO participation a short survey will be sent to all CSO members to determine why participation has dwindled over the years and to determine a course of action to increase our numbers at meetings, on committees and other events. There are many benefits to being involved in CSO including; good representation of CSO on campus, networking, increased camaraderie and morale among CSO members, and learning new skills like leadership and public speaking. Theresa mentioned there is a Toastmaster’s PDT course on public speaking November 14th and there is a Toastmaster’s meeting held on campus every Tuesday at 6:00 in the SUB. Toastmaster Flyers where distributed. Treasurer’s Report Kristina Keener CSO donated $100 to each of the food banks in the valley this spring. CSO is discontinuing the birthday gifts due to expense and decreased interest. Liz Weldy has volunteered to buy the annual CSO donation of $100 dollars for back to school supplies for this fall’s donation to the YWCA Back Pack for Kids Program. Recognition Committee Kati Wilson Kati is replacing Theresa Chrisman as the new Chair of the Recognition Committee. Kati indicated the annual CSO book and media sale is scheduled for October 16th and she will be sending out the list for people to sign up for time slots. We are raffling off another Kindle Fire this year and the drawing will be mid-November. We may have ½ beef or ½ pig for the raffle this spring. First Guest Speaker Cindi Durgan Cindi Durgan is an Academic Advisor for Career & Advising Services. Cindi is on the board of Twin County United Way and shared how giving to this group is good for the valley. Cindi indicated you can pledge on line or on the form that was distributed. Second Guest Speaker Greg Meyer Greg Meyer is the Director of College Communications. Greg explained that PSO, CSO, Student Senate and Faculty Senate have agreed to unite donation efforts this holiday season in place of each group donating individually to the community. The campus combined effort is called LCSC Cares. Boxes will be set up in all buildings to collect toys, food and toiletries. Collection of items will be on display in the SUB before they are donated to the YWCA and Community Action in December. Key Note Speaker Tony Fernández is the President of Lewis-Clark State College. President Fernández gave an update on the Strategic Plan and Program Prioritization. The program prioritization process will determine where our high demands are and make sure we are putting our resources where they are most needed and beneficial. The main goal is to optimize student success. The Teaching and Learning Center is also one of the many important goals in this process.
