JUSTIFICATION FOR ACTION REQUESTED The purpose of the department and campus-wide curriculum committees is to scrutinize course change and new course applications to make sure that the quality of UAF education is not lowered as a result of the proposed change. Please address this in your response. This section needs to be self-explanatory. Use as much space as needed to fully justify the proposed course. The Leadership Initiative Task Force, a university-wide group of faculty, students, staff and administrators, asked President Hamilton what kinds of leadership initiatives he would like to see at UAF, and he requested that the Alaska Scholars, who get a significant financial lift from the state, learn about leadership and civic responsibility in their early post-secondary education so that when they graduate, they are already actively involved in the university, their communities and in the state. We are training the future leaders of Alaska. After two years of offering this as a trial course we would like to make it a permanent course offering and target more advanced honors students.
