Summer 2010 Fellowship (for East Asia and Southeast Asia) (Tuition up to $4,000 and $2,500 stipend) Recipients must take 140 hours or more of language instruction at intermediate level (200 and 300 levels), or 120 hours or more of language instruction at advanced level (400 or higher level) in an intensive program of 6 weeks or longer. Recipients in East Asian languages may take two appropriate language courses through UHM summer sessions. Students who already possess language fluency equivalent to educated native speakers will be given lowest consideration. In line with federal guidelines, FLAS recipients will be asked to provide further information and to be tested for language proficiency both pre- and post-award.
