Presented to the Mānoa Faculty Senate on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 by the Committee on
Athletics, a resolution to support US Bill H.R.275.
COMMITTEE ON ATHLETICS RESOLUTION SUPPORTING US BILL H.R.275
WHEREAS, Division I athletics is an integral but expensive part of the UH Manoa experience,
and;
WHEREAS, the NCAA is allowing, and possibly requiring, even higher student athlete funding
because of demands by the richest athletic programs -- demands that will overburden UH, and;
WHEREAS, a bipartisan US bill (HR275) has been introduced in the US House of
Representatives that would establish a commission to identify and examine issues of national
concern related to the conduct of intercollegiate athletics and to make recommendations for the
resolution of the issues; therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED, that the UHM Faculty Senate expresses our support of US HR275 to
Hawaii’s four federal legislators in the form of a letter submitted from the UHM Faculty Senate
Chair.
