I'm a professor at the UHM Dept. of Nursing and one of the faculty leaders of the "DivestUH.org"
movement in the UH System. We are following the trend of universities around the world in promoting the
divestment of endowment funds from fossil-fuel related companies.
I am asking for 5 min at the Nov 19 Congress mtg to ask for faculty signatures on our website (below).
This request is timely given that we have been successful in placing this item on the agenda of the Jan. 20
meeting of the BOR, and already have 400+ total signatures and growing, but only around 30 faculty
signatures. Clearly we need more to show the BOR that we have clear faculty support.

I'm sure you will agree with me that this particular subject should not be relegated to the status of a
"political" request, since the rapidly deteriorating condition of our planet certainly transcends that label. I
should also point out that much of the urgency of this is based on the recent "climate departure" findings of
our own Dr. Camillo Mora of the Geography Dept at UHM published in Nature.
