Position Title: School Psychologist Reports to: Director of Special Services Terms of Employment: 195 days Alta Vista (AV) Charter Schools are a free, open enrollment, public charter school currently serving students in grades K – 4 and 6 – 12. AV schools are part of the Guadalupe Education System (GES) under Guadalupe Centers, Inc. It is sponsored by the University of Central Missouri. Summary: The School Psychologist for Special Education will primarily work with special education and classroom teachers to implement SPED strategies, accommodations and modifications for all students with an IEP. He/She will ensure that appropriate educational services are provided to all students eligible for Special Education and Section 504 plans. He/She will ensure an efficient and effective system of review, screening, referral, evaluation and placement for students with suspected disabilities. Essential Knowledge: Knowledge of the legal requirements of state and federal laws in regard to Special Education programs and Section 504—particularly, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), due process safeguards, the Missouri State Plan—and the District’s Special Education policies. Keeps abreast of and complies with applicable statues and regulations, including due process safeguards and the Missouri State Plan. Knowledge of the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM) (formerly MAP-A) and coordinate district-wide the implementation of DLM with the Special Education teachers. Assists with maintaining legal compliance: Works with the Director of Special Services in administering and implementing compliance related activities and assists teachers in completion of all necessary paperwork to ensure compliance with state and federal laws (IDEA), along with district policies, as needed. Provides training and supports to instructional staff: Works in conjunction with the Directors of Special Services, ESL and Curriculum to implement an effective staff development program related to effective instructional practices for students with an IEP or 504 Plan. Provides consultation for Special Education and General Education teachers concerning best practices, accommodations, and instructional resources to work with students in their classrooms who have an IEP or 504 Plan. Assists teachers within an educational program to assist students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Oversees referral and evaluation process: Oversee with the administration of the referral process (ECOS) to determine the appropriateness of/and need for an evaluation of a student for Special Education services, or of a 504 Plan. Coordinates and supervises the screening and evaluation process of all children potentially eligible for Special Education or 504. Analyzes, interprets and evaluates medical, psychological, social and educational information regarding services for eligible students. Qualifications: Required: Valid Missouri School Psychologist 3 years of successful School Psychology. Committed toward the success of historically under-served students. Effective written and oral communication, team building, and organizational skills. Possess knowledge of state and federal laws (and District policies) regarding the services for disabled people. Demonstrated ability to work with Building Level and District Level Leadership. Knowledge of all cognitive, academic, social/emotional, and adaptive assessments. Pass Criminal Background Check. Preferred: 5years of successful School Psychology. Experience in an urban school setting. Spanish speaking. Compensation: Salary is based upon years of experience and degree of education. A competitive benefits package is also offered.
