Nancy Bermeo works on the causes and consequences of regime change. She is the recipient of grants
from the Fulbright Association, the Social Science Research Council, the German Marshall Fund, the
Carnegie Endowment, the C.N.R.S. in France, and the Luso American Development Foundation in
Portugal. She has been a Fellow of Nuffield College, Oxford and the Center of Advanced Study in Madrid.
Her publications include Unemployment in the New Europe (ed.), Unemployment in Southern Europe
(ed.), Liberalization and Democratization (ed.), Civil Society Before Democracy (ed., with Philip Nord)
and Federalism and Territorial Cleavages (ed with Ugo Amoretti) Her latest book, titled Ordinary People
in Extraordinary Times, (Princeton, 2003) is on the breakdown of democracy in Europe and South
America . It won the 2004 Best Book award from the Comparative Democratization section of the
American Political Science Association.
