Bio
Peter B. Kenen is a Senior Fellow in International Economics at the Council on Foreign Relations
andWalker Professor of Economics and International Finance Emeritus at Princeton University. He
earned his BA at Columbia and his PhD at Harvard, where his dissertation won the David A. Wells Prize.
He taught at Columbia from 1957 to 1971, where he served as Chairman of the Economics Department
and, 1969-70, as Provost of the University. Provost. He was Director of the International Finance Section
at Princeton from 1971 to 1999. His is the author or co-cauthor of several books, including Asset Markets,
Exchange Rates and Economic Integration, Economic and Monetary Union in Europe, The International
Financial Architecture and, most recently, International Economic and Financial Cooperation: New Issues,
New Actors, and New Responses. He was a member of President Kennedy’s task force on foreign
economic policy, the Review Committee on Balance of Payments Statistics and the Economic Advisory
Committee of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and he has been.a consultant to the US Treasury,
the Federal Reserve, the IMF and the United Nations, and he has held research fellowships from the
Guggenheim Foundation, the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences, the Royal Institute
of International Affairs and the Bank of England. He is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and
the Group of Thirty, and was President of the Eastern Economic Association in 2000-01.
