-FTEs in Spring 2009 were 957.1, an increase of 17.4% over Spring 2008; in

Fall 2009 FTEs were 985.2, an increase of 8.3% over Fall 2008.

-Total Registrations (Head Count) in fiscal year 2008-09: 15,105 - an increase of 21.2% over fiscal year 2007-08

Please list the actions and/or improvement priorities underway from the most recent program review recommendations:

Information gathered from use of assessment tools is being analyzed to determine areas needing improvement in selected courses and where changes should be implemented.

Additional mentoring of adjunct faculty, including use of the new departmental mentoring handbook.

All departmental courses have undergone a preliminary review to determine if, and how, they should be converted to semesters.

Program outcome(s)--data collected in 07-08

What actions/improvements are underway as a result of your data analysis?

Data was collected from the course Humanities 125, The Human Image, for the outcome of Problem Solving / Critical Thinking.

The data indicated that students show weakness in 1) presenting effective evidence in support of an argument; and 2) understanding what constitutes a primary source. More emphasis is being put on student mastery of these skills.

Program outcome(s)--data collected in 08-09

How have you analyzed the data collected? What did you find? Describe the results obtained.

Data was collected through a pre- and post-test assessment in HIS 113,

Western Civilization from 1815 to the present, for the outcome of Global

Awareness. Questions were designed to measure students’ knowledge of, and attitudes toward, issues ranging from the Industrial Revolution and Imperialism to today ’s environmental crisis before and after taking the course. Results show that HIS 113 is successful in improving student’s knowledge of recent world history, and to a lesser extent in broadening their attitudes toward a more global perspective. While the c ourse generally did not change students’ underlying value system, we see evidence it did increase their ability to be fair and openminded.

For the outcome(s) currently under study (for 09-10 outcomes), what evidence and process do you plan to use to determine the extent to which this/these program outcome(s) have been met?

The department was not asked to study any of our courses with respect to this program outcome. Instead we will continue to work on utilizing data obtained from previous years to improve outcomes in Written Communication, Problem

Solving / Critical Thinking, and Global Awareness.

Note: Next year, you will be asked to describe the analysis (09-10 outcomes), and actions/improvements underway (08-09 outcomes).

General Education

Describe any general education changes/improvements in your program/department during this past academic year (08-09).

The department worked with administrators and staff of the Learning

Centers to offer the best number of our courses and sections to meet the

 needs of the students; additional adjuncts who reside in the greater

Cincinnati area have been hired to teach primarily at Courseview.

Most of the full-time faculty are actively involved in semester conversion of courses in their disciplines; most of our courses have a deadline of

March 2010 for submitting new syllabi and supporting documents.

PHI 205 and 206 were approved for the new Transfer Assurance Guide

(TAG) in Philosophy; this joins existing department TAG courses in HIS and PLS.

The Modern Language Lab did a pilot project in FRE courses using a new software , “Tell Me More,” to determine if this will enhance student achievement. SPA 101 is now being offered online, and planning is underway to make the entire first-year SPA sequence available online.
