Term I Outline Week 1 Social Studies Skill Building/Review Weeks 2-3 Enlightenment/American Revolution Interactive Lecture – Discuss the great philosophers of the Enlightenment period and how their ideas shaped western civilization – politically, economically, and socially – its ideas influenced Americans and led to the American Revolution and the Constitution as we know it today. Weeks 4-5 French Revolution Interactive Lecture – Discuss the causes and aftermaths of the French Revolution relating political, social, and economic changes to the ideas of the Enlightenment period. We will also explore the impact of the French Revolution in shaping nationalism as we know it today. Students will also analyze and compare the underlying causes of the French Revolution as it relates to current economic and social issues in America. Weeks 6-7 Spread of Revolutions in Europe/Latin America Interactive Lecture – Discuss the political, social, and economic conditions of Latin America and how the American and French Revolution influenced Latin Americans’ struggle for independence. We will also look at the impact of colonialism on Latin America’s struggle for freedom, as well as the origins of America’s oversight of the Western Hemisphere via the Monroe Doctrine. Week 8- Project Presentations Week 9 – Review/ Term Exam
