In order to focus on student success, provide quality instruction, and communicate openly and honestly with students and parents, secondary teachers will publish a course syllabus each term. 2015-2016 Course Syllabus for Keyboarding Term 1 Teacher: Carole Deere E-mail: carole.deere@biloxischools.net Teacher’s Web Site: www.biloxischools.net/schools/bhs/faculty/carole.deere Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. 1. Develop a basic understanding of terminology/applications, components, and care associated with the use of computers. 2. Develop basic skills associated with the use of an operating system. 3. Develop touch-keyboarding techniques. 4. Develop speed, accuracy, language, proper formatting and proofreading techniques. Tests and Grades Grading: A=90-100 B=80-89 C=70-79 D=65-69 F=below 65 I=incomplete Grading follows the policies of Biloxi Public Schools. A mid-term progress report and a report card following the end of each term are issued. Tests: Students will have a written test on keyboarding concepts. The test date will be announced in advance. Students will also have production tests following formatting concepts. Those will also be announced in advance. Dates for tests will be placed on the small white board in the classroom and on my web page. If you miss a test (written or production), it is your responsibility to make it up as soon as possible. You may come in before or after school and if time permits in class. The grading scale for this class is as follows: Activities--35% Tests--55% Term Exam--10% Retesting: Retesting is available to students for the objective test. If you wish to retest, retesting must be completed within two weeks of the original test date. In order to retest, students must attend a reteach session and complete an assignment or remedial work prior to retesting. Arrangements for remedial work must be made with the teacher and all remediation must be completed before or after school. Retesting is not permitted for students who are caught cheating on a test. Homework/Assignments/Projects: All work is done in the computer classroom. The only homework students may have is to study for tests. Course Requirements: Students are required to complete all assignments in the time frame given, take tests and complete class activities. If you do not complete your assignments a grade of zero will be entered in the gradebook. If you do not make up tests a grade of zero will be entered in the gradebook. Important Dates: Midterm progress report: 9/11/15 Common Term Assessment: 10/8/15 Report Cards: 10/19/2015 If you miss class--it is your responsibility to come in and make up assignments. To be successful in Keyboarding—attendance is a must!
