In order to focus on student success, provide quality instruction, and communicate openly and honestly with students and parents, secondary teachers will publish a course syllabus each term. 2015-2016 Course Syllabus for Geometry Term 1 Teacher: Geralyn Roberts E-mail: geralyn.roberts@biloxischools.net Teacher’s Web Site: http://biloxischools.net/schools/bhs/faculty/geralyn.roberts/ Objectives: This is a general overview of what the teacher will teach and what the student is expected to master. Tests: Students are expected to take a quiz or test on the day it is given unless they have had an extended absence. All missed quizzes and tests will be expected to be made up on the day the student returns after a one day absence. RETEST Policy: Retests are allowed on unit tests only, not quizzes, projects, or the CTA. The following requirements must be met if a student wishes to retest: 1. Students must give their best effort in class daily. This includes being attentive, NO sleeping, taking notes, and participating in asking or answering questions. 2. ALL questions on the original test must be answered to the best of the students’ ability. Absolutely no blanks! 3. 100% of all graded assignments/quizzes must be completed. 4. Attend a reteach session after school and complete the reteach assignment showing all of their work. 5. Sign up for a reteaching session at least 1 day prior to the session. Busses are available. 6. ALL retests must be completed within 10 days of the original test regardless of circumstances. Tutoring is offered Tuesday and Thursday from 2:30-3:40. Students are required to stay with the teacher the entire session unless they are involved in another school related activity (sports, band, etc…) Low quiz grades are an indication of non-mastery. Therefore, students are encouraged to attend tutoring prior to the test. Homework/Assignments/Projects: Every assignment is subject to grading, but not all will be graded. ALL work must be shown whenever possible. NO WORK = NO CREDIT! Bellwork is an opportunity for a student to check their understanding of a previous concept and get their brain engaged into a math mind set. Students unable to complete bellwork on their own should be gravely concerned about their ability to be successful on the current unit. Students who have been absent will have time to make up work as stated in the handbook. Graded work that is missing will show as a “1” in the grade book. It is the student’s responsibility to get this work and turn it in for a grade. Copying another student’s work/test is CHEATING. Cheating will result in a zero for all students involved. This grade cannot be made up or dropped. Depending on the circumstances, detentions and other disciplinary action may follow. Copying another student’s notes after an absence is acceptable IF the notes are not in the text. Students are expected to work cooperatively with a partner or in small groups. Course Requirements: STUDENT SUPPLIES: A geometry ONLY spiral notebook and folder for collecting hand-outs or a designated section in a binder with notebook paper, PENCILS, and erasers. TEXT: Students will be assigned a workbook that will remain in the classroom. A class set of Geometry textbooks will be available for classroom instruction. Any homework assigned will be in the form of a worksheet. CALCULATORS: A TI-84 graphing calculator is provided by the school for classroom use. Students who carelessly damage any school property (texts/calculators) will be fined accordingly!
