Guide for Correcting Writing Errors Each number is a different kind of mistake. If you make a mistake in your writing, I will use these numbers when marking your writing to show exactly what kind of mistake you have made. You must then correct it. Type of Error Example 1. Singular – Plural problem, also subject and verb don’t “agree.” 2. Word Form: you chose the wrong part of speech 3. Word Choice: you chose the wrong word 4. Verb Tense: you used the wrong tense I has 12 cat. I have 12 cats. 5+ Add a Word 5- Delete a Word 6. Word Order: your words are not in the correct order 7. Incomplete Sentence: you are missing a subject or verb 8. Spelling 9. Punctuation 10. Capitalization 11. Article: you used the wrong article (the, a, an) or forgot to use one. 12. Meaning Not Clear 13 Run-on Sentence: two complete sentences connected by a comma. Use a period, or a conjunction (and, but or, so). I saw a beauty picture. I saw a beautiful picture. She got on the taxi. She got in/into the taxi. He comes here last June. He came here last June. Everyday I am studying. Everyday I study I want go to the zoo I want to go to the zoo. My roommate was sleeping, we didn’t want to wake her up. My roommate was sleeping. We didn’t want to wake her up. OR My roommate was sleeping, so we didn’t want to wake her up.
