Tell us why you are interested in this position and highlight the reasons (i.e. unique experiences, skills, talents, education, etc.) that make you the best candidate. North’s mission, to change lives through education, is a mission I’ve seen realized both in my own life and in those of my friends and family. My mother, brother, and four friends I grew up with also attended North Seattle College while I was enrolled. My experience is unique in that I have had the opportunity to explore North in many different capacities. I know what it’s like to advocate for myself and others from a student and a staff perspective. I am familiar with a wide variety of challenges facing North’s students today through my own experiences with being a low income student, and from the experiences of those close to me and the other students I studied with, and can use what I learned from those experiences to benefit our students. As the Rental Coordinator at North Seattle College I already have the pleasure of interacting with Student Leaders on a regular basis and have a blast working with them. I’d like to opportunity to work with many students on campus in a more direct way, helping them find solutions and resources available to support them on their educational journey. When I was a student at North I really relied on other students and staff member’s institutional knowledge to navigate the college’s processes and procedures and found those vessels of experience incredibly helpful, I’d really like to be able to pay that forward to students at North so that they have as many opportunities as possible to follow their path. I also deeply respect and admire the SLMP department’s commitment to diversity, as evidenced by the yearly departmental attendance at the Student of Color Conference, the Diversity Speaker Series, and the level of diversity training that’s provided to staff members. The SLMP Office is leading the way at North in engaging in conversations about supporting students and staff from historically marginalized groups, I want to help boost that signal. Lastly, I see this position as the perfect opportunity to fully utilize my existing skill sets in event coordination and office support, while adding to my tool box by learning the nuances of working with departmental budgets. My breadth of institutional knowlege, drive to serve students and better their experience, commitment to diversity and eagerness to learn new skills make me a great candidate for this position. It’s my passion for serving North and the people that make it an awesome place to learn make me the best candidate for the Student Leadership and Multicultural Programs Program Specialist 2 Position.
