First Call for Proposals for Research Awards and Replacement Teaching November 2007 Guidelines for applicants 1. To apply for a Research Award please fill out sections only 1 to 4 and sections 7 and 8 of the application form. 2. To apply for Replacement Teaching, please fill out only sections 1 and 2 and sections 5 to 8 of the application form 3. A full application form is required if you are applying for both a research award and a replacement teaching 4. Salary costs should be obtained from the Research and Projects Division or your departmental administrator. You may also wish to consult them on other financial details. 5. IT equipment and software costs should be discussed with the School IT Services. The Paul Woolley Centre will normally not cover the cost of items that can be obtained using the IT departmental allocation. 6. The purchase of data should be discussed with the School Data Librarian http://www.lse.ac.uk/library/datlib/Default.htm, or the Finance Department Data representative, Michela Verardo (m.verardo@lse.ac.uk ). 7. The Paul Woolley Centre will normally supplement the grant, if necessary, to meet additional costs arising from pay awards implemented by the School. 8. Grants must be used solely for the purposes set out in the award letter. 9. A Final Project Report will be due within 3 months of the end of the project period 10. Investigators are expected to acknowledge The Paul Woolley Centre’s assistance in any publications resulting from this award. 11. In considering proposals, the following key criteria are taken account of: the importance and relevance of the topic to the PWC priorities the appropriateness of the methods proposed to the aims of the project (for research projects, this includes research design, data collection and analysis); demonstration of good knowledge of the area, including both research literature and the policy and practice context; priority within available funds and value for money. 13.
