Course website address (if applicable) and access instructions: Course website: http://elvis.sccd.ctc.edu:8900 Access instructions: Log onto WebCT with the WebCT ID (_studentatkins) and the password (robert). The current SocPsy230 class is at, “SOC230RA_E”. This has the same look and feel of the distance learning class with the Course Materials, 20 Power Point slide shows, 23 podcasts (recordings) and four “Exam Concepts” exam preparation activities. In addition, there are sections for Discussions, Chat rooms, Email, Exams, My Grades, Resources, Course Content, and the e-pack course tools. The actual distance learning class “PSY230_SOC230RA_E” will need an authorization code from the publisher to access it. Course communications -- How does the modality change affect course communication such as student/instructor contact, peer-to-peer interaction, and/or group discussion? What purpose do on-campus meetings (if applicable) serve? What are the expectations for student participation in these activities? Be specific. Students may contact the instructor via telephone or email. Peer-topeer interaction and/or group discussion may occur through the “Chat room” and Discussion facilities in WebCT. What purpose will on-campus meetings (if applicable) serve? Students may attend one optional on campus class orientation session. What are the expectations for student participation in these activities? Students are expected to be involved in email, discussion, or the chat room three times each week. They also receive class credit for doing so. Methods of assessment/evaluation -- How does the modality change affect student assessment such as written assignments, lab work, research, quizzes and/or exams? How have you ensured the integrity of the evaluation process? Do the methods used to assess the general education outcomes and course outcomes differ from the methods described in the original course outline? Be specific. The exams and “Exam Concepts” are similar to those used in my hybrid class. How will you ensure the integrity of the evaluation process? WebCT exams have a time limit, and will be evaluated as open book tests. The time limit of 50 minutes (one minute per question) will ensure that students will 2 not be able to simply look up the answers, since doing so will use up more time than they have. Will the methods used to assess the general education outcomes and course outcomes differ from the methods described in the original course outline? Student exams, emails, and discussions will be used to assess student outcomes, which is similar to the original course outline. Expectations of students -- In addition to the student participation in the communication and assessment processes described above, are there any other expectations of students which are specifically associated with the distance learning modality being utilized? Students are expected to be able to use the “Required technologies” listed below.
