There are 10 class days (30 hours of instruction): First day of class: Saturday, April 11 Last day of class: Saturday, June 13 Saturday, April 18 **Class Cancelled** THESE THINGS ARE IMPORTANT TO THIS CLASS: Computer Room Rules: NO FOOD or DRINK. TURN OFF cell phones. Use class time for computer practice, NO CHAT! Homework: It is your responsibility to prepare for class and do your homework. When you miss class, ask a classmate for the homework. If it is a worksheet, be sure to ask for it. Attendance: Please be on time and stay for the whole class. If you are sick or have an emergency please call and leave a message. Come to class regularly. Participation: Every day I watch and listen to see how well you are learning. SPEAK ONLY ENGLISH IN CLASS. Listen when other students or the teacher is talking. Use class time for computer practice. Work politely and respectfully with your classmates. The Loft: Go to the Loft to practice or get help with your class assignments. (It is on the 2nd floor of the Library.) Go to student lab IB 3303 and ask someone in the office to open IB 3305 for you. Performance Tasks: There will be several “performance tasks”, also called “PTs”. These help us see your progress in English. You will show how well you can use a computer by completing an activity. The grades for PTs are : 4= Excellent, 3= Good, 2= Developing, 1= Beginning Tests and quizzes will be announced in class. Please do your best to come to class on test days! * How your final grade will be calculated: For a passing grade, you must have an average of at least 75% overall. Attendance and Participation = Performance Tasks, Vocabulary Quizzes and Tests 50% = 50% In this class we will become comfortable using computers to do many things. We will learn computer vocabulary and practice keyboarding skills. We will learn to use software programs such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet, and email. We will learn how to organize documents and manage our email folders. There will be lots of time to practice new skills in class. As you learn about computers, you will also practice and get better at listening, speaking, reading and writing English. VERY IMPORTANT !! Tuition: You must pay your $25.00 fee before the 10th Day of the Quarter: Friday, April 17th. If you do not pay, you will be dropped from this class. If you are dropped you can go to the Advising Office to enroll again. If you do not pay for a quarter you can not register for the next quarter until your bill is paid. (Advising Office, 527-7303) Supplemental Class Policy: If you register for a class and do not go to class, you must call and tell the teacher why. If you do not call and do not go to class, you may not be allowed to register for that class again. Please be very sure that you want a class before you register. Repeat Policy: Washington State says students cannot take the same class more than three (3) times. This means that you must work to pass this class. You must attend class, do your homework, study for tests and quizzes, and participate in class. __________________________________________________________________________________ General College Policies and Rules Smoking is allowed ONLY where there are signs saying it is OK. Please do not smoke in stairwells or near classroom doors. Perfumes make some people very sick. The college asks everyone (teachers and students) not to wear perfume or cologne to class.
