DAC Meeting Minutes
Nov. 6, 2014; 3:00-4:30pm
Attendance: Wade Parrott , Brianne Sanchez, Jeffrey Vasquez, Betty Williams; OCEE representatives - Herbie
Martin, Denae Rouse; Students - Nadia Nugroho, Frederica Prihanto
1. Agenda reviewed, welcome, introductions, and checking in.
2. October minutes approved.
3. Membership Update, Officers and Available slots – want to confirm who is committed to the committee
this year and get all position filled. We need to get all the positions filled as outlined in the bylaws. Henry at
the OCEE should be contacted to start the process to get the open positions filled. Herbie’s term is ended and
Denae is going away for 6 months, so the positions need to be filled. Wade will follow up with folks who have
been on the roster that he hasn’t heard from so we can get all positions filled by notifying the relevant people
on the list.
4. MLK Week planning committee is being led by Carianya Napoli. She is not able to attend today for a
report. Everyone is welcome to work with the committee. Contact Carianya if you are interested.
5. DIF training will be coming up in Spring Quarter, and the college is continuing to work with Ginlin Woo to
provide that 3 day training again and support for the 3 previous cohorts to continue to work together to
develop a more inclusive, welcoming community. Wade will be working on promoting the training and getting
input to set the dates during Spring Quarter. The group discussed the many values of the work in our jobs,
building community to support the work in our campus, and ideas to structure the training – including the idea
of having some break out groups that focus on specific topics that can be facilitated by previous DIF trainers,
as well as having the larger, longer training of facilitators. This year may be the last one to do this work with
Ginlin Woo. Wade will follow up with emails about the details and encourages everyone to participate and tell
others about it.
6. Wade is also organizing the LDI training (Leadership Development Institute) that will be starting in January
and going through June, one full Friday monthly. Wade will work to set up the timing so people can participate
in both without time conflicts. Libby Wagner will have Ginlin come in to talk about the value of DIF. Wade is
involved with both and encouraged people to do both trainings. This year will also be the last one for the LDI.
7. The Seattle Community College District received an award on diversity – the 2014 Regional Equity Award.
Wade will share more information via email.
8. Requests for DAC funding have come to Wade. We will look at giving out awards each quarter. There
were 3 requests presented – the balance of funds to be approved to fund the Professional Development
Subcommittee’s work of the book reads and student panel in the Spring, a request for a speaker from Herbie,
and a request for funds to purchase films for an LGBTQ film festival from Chilan. There was discussion about
the DAC Subcommittee request for funding, and a vote with the majority in favor. There was discussion about
the amount to be paid to faculty in stipends, and the value and purpose of the activities. Wade will follow up
with an email vote on the requests for funding since we ran out of time and did not have a quorum.
