EDGAR Company Search http://www.sec.gov/edgar/searchedgar/companysearch.html EDGAR, the Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval database contains filings for U.S. public companies, that are required by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC.) These SEC filings contain a wealth of information on public companies – a comprehensive description of the company, financials, legal issues, etc. There are many different types of SEC filings, but probably the most useful is the Form 10-K, which is an annual report that is usually filed within 90 days after the end of the company’s fiscal year. On the EDGAR search page, type in the company name or ticker symbol. The example below shows a search for Starbucks. Type in company name or ticker symbol. Choose the appropriate link You can either browse through the list for the 10-K, or you can search for it in the search box. Select the link [html], after the 10-K Then click on the 10-K link and scroll down to the table of contents. This will have links to the different sections of the filing. The link, Business, provides a very comprehensive description of the company.
