Creating a Batt Insulation Symbol
Step 1: Open your symbols library and give the active layer a 3/4" scale.
Step 2: Set the line weight to .15 and draw a wall cavity (two vertical lines)
5 1/2" apart.
Step 3: Draw a horizontal line across the cavity lines. Use the arc tool to draw a semi
circle w/ 1 1/2" radius and move it inside the wall cavity so the right center of circle
is touching the wall.
Step 4: Move the horizontal line up 1 5/8". This line will become the centerline for a
smaller 1 1/4" radius semi circle you will draw next.
Step 5: Activate Constrain Tangent on your Constraints Palette and draw a tangent line
to both circles as below. The tangent lines will require you to hold down the ALT key to
rotate the line in the proper direction, and also make sure you get the screen hint
tangent/tangent, this means the line is tangent to both circles. Finally, make sure you
turn off the tangent constraint when you are finished.
Step 6: Now you need to remove portions of the semi circles by using the trim tool.
Select the trim tool and click on the portion of the arc to be removed.
See below
Step 7: Next, delete the two vertical cavity lines and the horizontal reference line you
drew earlier. Now select the two arcs and the tangent line and mirror duplicate.
Step 8: Group the objects and save as a symbol named 2X6 Batt Insulation. Make the
insertion point as indicated below.
