The Chesapeake Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is pleased to offer: Project Design & Evaluation/ Coastal Restoration June 7 and 8, 2016 Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), Gloucester Point, VA What: Have you ever implemented a restoration project that didn’t quite meet its intended outcomes? (Be honest!) This interactive workshop offers restoration practitioners valuable knowledge, skills, and tools to enhance your ability to design targeted projects that have a greater chance of achieving success. Participants will learn to increase restoration project effectiveness by applying a systems approach to designing a new project or reassessing an existing one. This approach helps build in accountability, reveal assumptions, create a targeted effort and strategic thinking, and better articulate the impacts on the issue. *The workshop is not intended to present technical components of restoration planning, but rather a planning framework, that will increase project success. The approach is applicable to any habitat type. *Space is limited—register early!! Registration closes on May 19, 2016 (if not already full). After completing this course, participants will be able to: • Assess their understanding of specific needs to address the issue and create a plan of action • Create a box & arrow model that logically maps out who, what, when, why, and how project efforts will address the issue • Develop SMART objectives that provide evidence of how well the project is achieving the desired outcomes • Generate performance standards/monitoring indicators that support project evaluation *Participants will work on their own projects during class and will learn about coastal restoration themed examples to illustrate course concepts Who: Restoration practitioners, land and resource managers TIPS: 1) We strongly encourage 2+ members of a project team to attend the course 2) When you register, please include a brief description of the issue your project team wants the project to resolve examples: sediment diversion in part of the Chesapeake Bay dune restoration at Gilligan’s Headlands bank stabilization on Lighthouse Island When: June 7 and 8, 2016 Registration: There is no charge for this workshop, but registration is mandatory!
