 Model UN
o Sarah: Fees are those for per student or team
 Flat delegation fee and per student and then per person cost
 Specifics on break down cost for student requested
o Do you take the minimum number of people you can
o Take number required to maximize their skills, and be competitively
viable, take the people that will get the most out of it and bring the most
prestige back
 Numbers 30 to NYC and 34 to mid west competition; unsure
because they do not know how many countries they will get
o Cost of food
 $20/day in St Louis $30/day in NYC. Realistically doesn’t cover
full expenses but it makes it more reasonable for student
o How much control do you have over the countries you choose
 Have to submit a list of 10 countries in priority order. Ranked in
competition based on every committee you are in. You need to
take at least 2 people per room to be competitively viable. More
experienced people choose the countries
o How do you choose country? Take into consideration the number of
people required
 If a country is too large they won’t choose it because they can’t
take that many people with.
o Printing and duplicating is all$2000 going towards printing
o Printing and coping, making sure they can fully compete with all the
materials they need
o
 Kurtis: dues, is $250 a flat rate

going in to the competition.
Pre Med society

Quin: Travel going to med schools. Do you have meetings planned with
administrations
o Meet with advisors. Guided tours, sometimes with student sometimes with
administratirs. Sometimes Oshkosh alumn. Nice to have a guided first
time experience at the school, allows you to see different aspects of
schools you don’t get from websites
Calvin: in state colleges
o Want them to see we have good quality schools in state. To get out of state
is important because getting into instate schools is hard going out of state
shows there is a variety to choose from
Additional benefits brought back to campus
o Didn’t know what soeccialty he wanted until he went onto one of these
tours his freshman year. Caused him to become a CA and get more
involved in the community and education style. Allows a soark to be lit in
a student and allows them to come back [inspired]. Gives premed students
hope when they need it becaouse their courses are so tough.
Is this a general trend among the students
o Generally coming out of the med scholls everyone is excited and now it is
a tangible goal for them to achieve
o
Sarah: how many go on trips
o About twenty
Beyond those 20 what is the benefit that this trip provides to campus
o Anytime we educate ourselves we can take that and use it in other clubs.
Example going tobacco free we can use those skills to help others. Can
bring health benefits to the floor (as a CA)
o
Kurtis: How does this go back to org like presentations
o Tonight we have a meeting about what classes you need to take for
specific schools. Each school is a little different. Allows you to build your
schedule. Learn a little more each time we go to a school. For example
MCAT questions. Each time you visit a school you get a little more of an
idea of questions for the exam, etc.
SEAC
 Kurtis: Tshirts would they stay with org or are they keeping shirts
o Giving only to students who attend a certain number of meetings

o One hotel room one night
 Benefit of out of state vs in state
o CISA is farming the other is alt energy. Political and environmental
activism. They do more workshops. AASHE is more campus based. They
talk with other UW schools. Its more of a trading of info where out of state
is more new ideas being brought in
 $500 for flight
o this year was close to that we anticipate it being no more
 Earth week speaker donation
o Generally $1000 goes towards fee for talking and lodging. Oshksoh
sustainably covers the rest
 Earth charter benefits
o 500 for table and 500 for food
 Reusable bags
o Taste of Osh and incentive system. Small campaign to get people to think
about reusing bags

o I saw that on the pre law society example so I just copied that
Circle K
 Thomas:
o Travel: what kind of tavel is this? Volunteering?
 Volunteering, leadership excercies, training for president VP etc
and also do service projects
What is spring fling?
Help camp get ready for summer. Membership training. A lot of service projects
are incorporated into travel.
 Quin: travel, where does 2500 come from
o Estimate. We do a lot of traveling and sometimes when all the fleet
vechiles are taken we need to go through enterprise
 Nathan: does each person get their own hotel room?
o 4 people per room and usually go to downtown GB, Milwaukee etc. and
taxes. Its hard to go for less than that

 Sarah: Why don’t you print agendas from student account?
o Because it adds up from personal account.
o Conversation about hard limits now imposed on printing. Looking into if
that’s true.
 Kurtis:????
o Learn how to be leaders and include everyone. Use the correct type of
language with everyone. Treat everyone with respect even if they don’t
like it. You need to be the bigger person. Learn how to recruit people and
improve membership. We have improved membership which is why we
need the increase IN travel

o 4 but interclubs are normally about 8. The others are more time
consuming. They have events each week that people can choose what they
can do.
TitanTV
 Thomas: Student Assistants…what kind of work do they do?
Sara: Professional organization so paid positions have mandatory time
commitments for station’s continued operations. Can’t opt out without negatively
affecting station performance. Advisor: They used to not make any money, but
she said they should get paid because it looks bad if station goes out because
students don’t put in the time…salaries encourage continued performance. Lots of
hours to make 120 productions a year, to create 4 shows. Gives example of
homecoming
 Thomas: follow up: do the student workers do it for the money or the educational
experiences and why do they need a raise.
Sara: In it for the educational experience, but the pay gives more incentive to
actually do the work. Wages are so minimal that it wouldn’t be worth it if just in it
for the money
 Thomas: Difference between operational expense and Equipment and Furniture
Sara: equipment and furniture one time purchases
Advisor: operational expenses unforeseen costs based on student activities
 Quin: Why do you send 4 instead of 2 for example

 Kurtis: What benefit does conference bring to campus as a whole

need to be purchased

 Quin: What are the supplies expenses going for?
o Minor things from craft store that don’t cost much but add up a lot. Trying
to put more effort into events.

 Sarah: Why 20 students on the trip?
o Class (strategic campaigns and advertising) is 15 plus whoever has been a
dedicated member, gives them a reward for being a good club member. To
be able to provide a substantial experience need to have more people
contributing
 Sarah: transportation is for 17 people, how are other 3 people going
o Some advisors drive, if 20 people are going to attend
 Sarah: How does it benefit the campus as a whole?
o Bringing back the advertising experience to UWO where there is not a big
push on advertising. Brings experience outside of the classroom and
makes more students interested in the club
 Calvin: Do you need to go to Appleton to get portfolio reviewed or can someone
come here
o Have to have multiple reviews on work, asking for funding just for ad club
members

o Every person gets 2 copies, advisor gets at least 1 copy. Passes some out

Wisconsin Review (Ben – senior editor)
 Calvin: does editing/publication work need to be done in an office
o Only people left in office by stairs in reeve (Narnia)
 Quin: Have you thought about benefits of electronic distribution?
o We have been trying to update the website, would be great to have online
and we do take submissions online however it does not seem realistic right
now.
 Calvin: Food and food service contracts, could you put a dollar amount on each
meeting/reading parties
o Staff meetings would be less expensive than the reading parties, staff
meetings less than $30
 Sarah: How much do you charge for a subscription, and what are the costs of
making one issue? How many issues a year are you making?
o $10 charge for one issue, do not know off hand the cost of making one.
