Greetings from the State and the Board of Regents Class speaker gives speech Faculty speaker will speak Chancellor’s Medallion Presented Honorary Doctorate Presented Doctorate Degrees Conferred (PM Only) Masters degrees conferred Undergraduate degrees confirmed Master’s Degree candidates will be asked to stand in the following order. Important Note: You do NOT have to cross the Platform in any particular order, but you may choose to get in line by color of hood, noted below: Morning Ceremony: Master of Arts - White hood Master of Public Administration - bright blue Master of Science (Biology, English, Mathematics Education, Physics, Psychology) - gold hood Master of Social Work – Gold (Citron) 2 Afternoon Ceremony: Master of Business Administration – Drab Mater of Science – Light Blue Master of Science in Education – Light Blue Master of Science in Nursing – Apricot Procedure for conferring of Master’s Degree: Procedure for conferring of Master’s Degree: Provost Earns will ask master’s degree candidates to rise. Graduate Marshal Parrot will lead the first row to the platform when the Chancellor says.... “Will Graduate Studies Marshal (Chrobak/ Scofield) please lead the Master’s Degree Candidates to the platform to receive a symbol of that degree.” HOODING PROCESS Wearing Regalia Tassels on the left side of the mortarboard Hood over left arm, velvet trim toward wrist, narrow end of hood on outside arm. Demonstration 1) Follow Faculty Marshal to the platform 2) Have your name card scanned and keep your name card as you proceed up the ramp. 3) Hand your name card to the announcer and walk to the hooding space (do not wait for your name to be read). Write the phonetic pronunciation of your name card. 4) Present your left arm to Graduate Studies Faculty Marshals who will remove the hood. 5) Turn facing the audience and stand between the two marshals. 6) Stand straight (Don’t stop!) while the hood is placed over your head. 7) Waive for a tap on the shoulder from a marshal then proceed left to the 3 Chancellor to receive the diploma. 8) Descend the stage, return to your chair BUT remain standing until you are asked to be seated. 9) Sit when the provost announces that the master’s graduates can be seated. NOTE: A professional photographer will take your picture 1) at the top of the onramp, 2) when you receive the diploma from the Chancellor and 3) as you descend the off ramp. Free proofs of these photos will be sent to you in the next 10 days. The process (minus the hooding) will be repeated with the undergraduates. When all graduate and undergraduate degrees have been recognized, there will be a brief welcome to the Alumni Association & then Provost Earns will adjourn the ceremony. Everyone will rise to sing the Alma Mater. The words will be printed inside the back cover of the printed program. The stage party and faculty will recess down the center aisle. Graduates follow out, down center aisle, row by row. IMPORTANT INFORMATION TIDBITS: The entire ceremony will take approximately 2 hours. FOR THE DIGNITY OF THIS CEREMONY & OUT OF RESPECT FOR ALL GRADUATES – BOTH MASTER’S AND UNDERGRADUATE CANDIDATES, we expect that you will return to your designated and remain there until the ceremony is adjourned. Also, PLEASE ask that your guests remain seated in honor of the other graduates that still must be recognized. There are two10x10 projection screens at the state for easy viewing of the activities on the stage. The ceremony is also video taped (DVDs can be ordered online via the commencement website) Graduates and guests are invited to an informal reception in the lower level gyms immediately following each ceremony.
