HUMAN RESOURCES | PERFORMANCE EVALUATION JOB AID: Supervisor Feedback Tips to Prepare Schedule a time in advance that is mutually convenient for both you and the employee. If you prefer, you can exchange completed supervisor and employee feedback forms in advance. Think about the main areas of responsibility Strive for balance: Consider all aspects of work and give a range of feedback Don’t let recent work offset an entire year of performance Consider ways you can support your employee’s goals and priorities Example of strengths, achievements and key contributions: Project planning and implementation: You anticipate problems before they occur and provide meaningful information so that I can make informed decisions. You planned and monitored progress of Project X in order to stay on target with deadline and budget constraints. You made sure all key stakeholders had a voice prior to project launch which lead to a successful and comprehensive implementation. Examples of an area for continued improvement: Follow through: You give courteous and knowledgeable customer service, but you frequently forget to follow through on more complex customer requests, and don’t escalate complaints or problems within the timeframe that we’ve established (24 hours). This can lead to customer frustration and loss of productivity within our department. Communication: Your written and oral communication skills are outstanding: objective, clear and concise. To further build on this strength, I’d like to see you strengthen your presentation and public speaking abilities. Evaluating last year’s goals and priorities: Evaluate your employee’s past goals and priorities by asking: Were the desired outcomes of the goals and priorities met within the time-based parameters that were set? Did the employee have capacity to be successful with the goals and priorities that were established? When giving evaluation feedback, be specific. Avoid judgments and focus on specific examples. Example evaluations of goals and priorities: You improved your team work skills by attending the Teamwork 101 workshop, presenting the information you learned to our department and applying your learning in the committees you serve on. You submitted reports by the 15th of every month and met the internal deadline 11 out of 12 months. I didn’t see progress on your work to update the department procedures manual. Let’s talk about the challenges you faced and how this work can move ahead.
