UWS POSITION STATEMENT POSITION DETAILS: Position Title: Casual Education Support Services Staff (Scribes, Readers and Individual Exam Arrangements Supervisors) HEW Level: Establishment No: School/Office: Disability Services, Student Support Services Division: Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students & International) Corporate Strategy and Services CONTEXT: The Disability Service operates within Student Support Services. The Disability Service is responsible for the provision of ‘reasonable adjustments’ to enable students with a disability or health condition to complete their studies. Reasonable adjustments include the provision of exams in accessible format, examination supervision and practical academic assistance during exams. The work of the Disability Service is underpinned by the Disability Discrimination Act (1992) and the Educational Standards (2005). PURPOSE/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Scribes, Readers and Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA) Supervisors attend scheduled examinations and provide support to students with disabilities across a range of examinations. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Scribes, Readers and Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA) Supervisors liaise with the Assessment and Graduation Unit and UWS Disability Support and report to their employer (external agency). Scribes, Readers and Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA) Supervisors are required to report all concerns with their duties to the Assessment and Graduation Unit and their employer in a timely manner. SCOPE: Scribes, Readers and Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA) Supervisors play a vital role in ensuring students are provided with appropriate support for undertaking examinations. Staff are required to work independently as directed. Staff may be allocated the following tasks as directed: - Assist with supervising, scribing and reading in exams Reporting and documenting incidents occurring during examinations Training: Before commencing employment Scribes, Readers and Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA) Supervisors will be provided with mandatory online training in: - Provision of Exam Supervision Role of a Scribe Role of a Reader KEY FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: 1. Complete Online training sessions prior to commencing duties. 2. Adhere to all policies and procedures as detailed in the Individual Exam Arrangements (IEA) Manual for Scribes, Readers and Exam Supervisors. 3. Be punctual in attending scheduled timetabled examinations 20 minutes prior to the commencement of the examination. 4. Check that all examination adjustments are implemented as specified on the student’s Academic Integration Plan (AIP). 5. Alert the Exam Centre immediately of concerns relating to the implementation of examination adjustments, suspected student misconduct or irregularities during the exam. Specify details of events on the Formal Examination – Incident Report as required. 6. Ensure confidentiality is maintained. 7. The primary duties of each role are as follows: Scribe The principal task of the scribe is to write down or type the dictated answers of the student during the exam. Reader The role of the reader is to work one-on-one with the student to read all written exam material. Exam Supervisor The primary role of the exam supervisor is to supervise the exam and make sure that the exam environment is maintained until the exam has been completed. The supervisor is required to make sure that the individual exam adjustments stipulated in the student’s Academic Integration Plan (AIP) are implemented during the exam. The exam supervisor is required to ensure the student does not receive any assistance other than what has been authorised on the student’s AIP. SELECTION CRITERIA: Proficiency with the English language, demonstrating a high standard of written expression and reading skills. Capacity to record notes for specialty subjects and various subject areas. Demonstrated proficiency in interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise with students, academics and support staff.
