CASE FOR PROMOTION
Before completing this section please make sure you have familiarised yourself with the
Western Sydney University Promotion to Professor Policy, Procedures and Guidelines and all
associated documents.
Instructions:

The Case for Promotion must not exceed 6,000 words (including tables, graphs, pictures,
etc) in length. If this limit is exceeded, the Committee will only read the first 6,000
words.

In presenting the case for promotion, the format for addressing the fields of achievement, (a),
(b), and (c) is as follows;
(i) Please specify which particular criterion area or areas you wish to be considered for
promotion e.g. for (a), Achievement in Research and Development, including engaged
research, you might specify research-based professional consultancy activities;
(ii) Please indicate for each field of achievement the basis on which this criterion is to be
considered by deleting whatever is not applicable: i.e. Distinguished or Meritorious; Please
note: It is expected that successful applicants will normally be able to demonstrate
"distinguished" activity in at least two fields of achievement and a minimum of meritorious
in the third
(iii) For each field of achievement, please provide a statement/narrative of major
achievements, impact or contributions (refer to the guidelines, beginning p.5 – Handy hints
for writing the case for promotion);
(iv) All fields of achievement must be addressed. If an applicant is of the view that a field of
achievement is not applicable (e.g. for staff employed in a research-focused position), this

N.B. Evidence of the initiation or undertaking of successful entrepreneurial activities on behalf
of the University is admissible to support a case for promotion as long as they have been
