CASE FOR PROMOTION
Before completing this section please make sure you have familiarised yourself with the
Western Sydney University Promotion Policy, Procedures and Guidelines and all associated
documents.
Instructions:
 The Case for Promotion must not exceed 4,000 words (including tables, graphs,
pictures, etc) in length. If this limit is exceeded the Committee will only read the first
4,000 words.

In presenting the case for promotion, each of the fields of achievement, (a), (b), (c) must be
addressed in the following format:
(i) Specify which particular criterion area or areas you wish to be considered for
promotion eg for (a), Achievement in Research and Development, including engaged
research, and/or Research Leadership and/or Research-based Professional
Consultancy Activities, you might specify Research-based Professional Consultancy
Activities.
(ii) Indicate for each field of achievement the basis on which this criterion is to be
considered by deleting whatever is not applicable: i.e. outstanding / meritorious /
satisfactory.
(iii) For each field of achievement, provide a statement/narrative of major achievements,
impact or contributions (refer to the Guidelines, beginning p.4 – Handy hints for
writing the case for promotion).
N.B. Evidence of the initiation or undertaking of successful entrepreneurial activities on
behalf of the University is admissible to support a case for promotion if they have been
