Proposal:
The average efficiency of a car engine or Otto-cycle engine is about 30%. There are a number of
internal moving parts in an engine that are used for inlet fresh air and outlet used CO2. Although
lubricated, all these moving parts cause loading on the engine directly coupled to the crankshaft. There
are also a number of external parts that are coupled to the crankshaft with the use of pulleys that cause
loading on the engine. This paper will cover a case study on how much power can theoretically be freed
up by removing all internal and external moving parts of the engine (assuming these parts can be
replaced by externally mounted electric parts all powered off a battery/alternator system).
