Internship Announcement Oak Dreamer Class The “I Have a Dream” Foundation of Boulder County is a school dropout prevention program that helps children (Dreamers) from low-income areas become successful adults by providing a long-term program of mentoring, tutoring and enrichment – with an assured opportunity for higher education. The program will continue with the Dreamers through high school graduation and transition to post-secondary education. We currently have an opportunity for an Intern to work as an assistant to the Program Director, supporting programming for 80 elementary students (Dreamers) and their families in Boulder, currently based at Columbine Elementary School. This is a half-time, paid internship. Responsibilities: Assist the Program Director with processes to support planning, organizing and overseeing a yearround program of age-appropriate activities to support Dreamers’ academic needs including an academic and enrichment after-school program, in-school tutoring, and a summer program Support existing structures for case management, Dreamer programming, parent programs, community partnerships and school relationships Assist the Program Director with tasks that provide structure and organization for individual case management for each Dreamer, their academic and enrichment needs, and advocating and supporting self-advocacy of Dreamers Maintain Dreamer case management files and records related to Program activities; such as Dreamers’ grades, school attendance and “I Have a Dream” participation, results of one-on-one intervention and family involvement, etc. Work as a member of a team that includes the Program Director, AmeriCorps members, volunteer tutors and mentors; and serve as tutor when appropriate Assist in maintaining close working relationships with school officials; review academic performance and attendance records of Dreamers; support scheduling of parent-teacher conferences Represent “I Have a Dream” to community groups and forums; build and maintain partnerships with community agencies and businesses, serve as lead representative in some partnerships Assist Program Director to arrange a regular schedule of cultural, social, recreational and community service activities that expand horizons Assist in organizing college visits, and promote career awareness for Dreamers Other duties as assigned Intern Supervisor: Program Director, Oak Class Requirements: · Bachelor’s degree preferred, preferably in education, social work, or human services, or, equivalent experience · Experience working with multi-cultural families and children who are environmentally at-risk · Strong organizational, oral and written communication and computer skills · Prior non-profit experience and volunteer management preferred · Reliable transportation, good driving record and insurance · Fluency in Spanish required · Some evenings and weekends Email cover letter and resume to tracy.leffingwell@ihaveadreamboulder.org.
