DEPARTMENT OF BIOLOGY
Graduate Teaching Assistant of the Year Award
Sukanya Majumder
Sukanya Majumder has been named our 2011 “Outstanding Teaching Assistant of the
Year.” Sukanya is a fifth year graduate student who has taught a variety of courses for
Biology, from introductory courses to core courses for majors. She also taught BIOL
204, an advanced Genetics Lab, and is currently teaching BIOL 205, the more advanced
course in the series. These courses encompass a broad range of biological topics that
require specialized knowledge and distinct laboratory skills. As a Teaching Assistant,
Sukanya is very dedicated to the class and students, and takes no short cuts to reduce her
effort in teaching even when her research requires extra attention. She is always prepared
for class and her lectures to the group; her lectures are clear and very interactive.
Sukanya is an enormously talented scientist and teacher. GTAs like Sukanya make our
courses come alive and create wonderful learning atmospheres. She leaves behind
grateful students and our Department is very appreciative to her for her contributions to
our teaching mission.
Congratulations Sukanya!
