The Temple Daily Telegram has announced that the Temple school district board of trustees Monday officially welcomed Walter Prothro as the district's new director of transportation. Prothro comes to the district after working two years with the Texas Education Agency as the assistant state director for transportation and a previous six years as manager of the transportation and vehicle maintenance department for the Corpus Christi school district. "I am very pleased to be here and look forward to the challenge of working in Temple," he said. Prothro, who began duties Monday, Nov. 6, said his goal is to meet with the schools' principals and identify the needs of each school as it applies to transportation. "I love this business and want to continue the School board meets transportation head understanding that this (transportation) department is an extension of the classroom" Prothro said. Prothro replaces Bob Arris, who served the district through last year and left after undergoing surgery. Other business discussed in a special meeting of the board was the review of the parent/teacher conference day and the districtwide professional development activities earlier this year.
