Opening ceremonies scheduled today for The Wall That Heals
The Temple Daily Telegram reports that the opening ceremonies for The Wall That Heals, the
one-half scale traveling replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., are
scheduled for 10 a.m. today at the Bell VFW Post 1820, 3302 Airport Road in Temple. Lt. Gen.
Leon J. LaPorte, commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood, will be the featured speaker
and two medal of honor winners — Robert E. O’Malley of Goldthwaite and Louis R. Rocco of
San Antonio — are scheduled to attend the ceremony, according to Gregory F. Hartigan, special
