Hello Kathryn, I have a visually impaired student, Stacey Holman – ID 0076530, in my ITSW 1310 Introduction to Presentation Graphics Software class. I just received from Dr. Sherry Brown the Special Support Services Approved Accommodations for this student. 1. Use Jaws – she is using the computer in 502 with the Jaws software installed. However, she said it is not working correctly. I have turned in a work order #184 on 8/28/2006 to identify and correct the problems she is having with the software. 2. Extra time for tests - I will have her tests in the testing center and allow her the time she needs to take the test. 3. Commission for the Blind will pay for reader – We need the reader ASAP because we have started the lectures. The course description is as follows: Instruction in the utilization of presentation software to produce multimedia presentations. Graphics, text, sound, animation and/or video may be used in presentation development. It is my understanding after talking with Stacey that she has no vision in either eye. The requirements of the course is for the student to create graphics(charts, graphs and clip art), animated Gifs, and edit digital photographs in Abode Photoshop. My previously visually impaired student had a student worker, with a knowledge of the presentation software, to assist with in-class tutorials and homework assignments(10% of the grade), the team PowerPoint presentation(10% of the grade), and individual PowerPoint presentation(30% of the grade). Stacey will also need this assistance from a student worker, with a knowledge of the presentation software, because 50% of her grade will be based on the PowerPoint presentations she produces. I can make the accommodation to allow more sound elements and less graphic elements in the individual presentation. However, we have not tested Jaws with the sound editing software. Contact me and Dr. Botts as soon as possible about the additional assistance you can give this student. We are currently in the lecture section of the course, but the PowerPoint Tutorial start September 20, 2006. Joe Teakell CIS Department Temple College
