GRANT PROPOSAL WRITING
There are millions of dollars available for the projects of non-profit groups through government entities and
private foundations. This is your chance to learn to write winning proposals in a two-day seminar. This
workshop is designed to familiarize novice and intermediate-level proposal writers with various aspects of
proposal writing: researching funding from federal, state, and private entities; how to plan projects that meet
goals and needs; and the “how-to’s” of writing successful applications. Class meets for two full days – 14 Hrs.

MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY
Well paying jobs are available in the medical field, but first you have to know the lingo! Class is a study of word
origin and structure through the introduction of prefixes, suffixes, root words, plurals, abbreviations and
symbols, surgical procedures, medical specialties and diagnostic procedures. Student will learn to identify,
pronounce, and spell medical terms; use terms in context; build and analyze medical terms and use medical
references as resource tools. Class consists of 20 classroom hours and 10 hours of independent study.
Textbook: Exploring Medical Language. (30 Hrs - 3.0 CEU)

INSURANCE CODING
This class provides skills and knowledge in the medical records field for ICD-9 and CPT coding of insurance
forms for reimbursement of medical services. The student will be able to identify different nomenclatures and
classification systems and assign codes using appropriate rules, principles, guidelines and conventions.
Prerequisite for this course is Medical Terminology or a passing grade on screening exam to show familiarity
with medical terminology. (30 Hrs – 3.0 CEU)

BEGINNING CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH
Designed for beginners and those who already know some Spanish. In addition to basic grammar, students will
begin reading and speaking Spanish in the early lessons. Students will expand their vocabularies by learning
words which are similar in meaning and spelling in both English and Spanish. Textbook: Open Door to
Spanish, Ed. 2 is $36.00. (24 Hrs.)

CONVERSATIONAL SIGN LANGUAGE I
This course is an introduction to sign language, fingerspelling, and numbers and provides basic functional
communication skills with individuals who are deaf. The student will fingerspell basic personal information,
communicate basic personal information in sign; demonstrate conversational courtesies; demonstrate basic
expressive and receptive vocabulary skills; and use simple sentence patterns. (24 Hrs – 2.4 CEU)

BEGINNING BOOKKEEPING
This class will teach the basics of accounting with a focus on analyzing, classifying, and recording business
transactions. Emphasis will be on an understanding of the complete accounting cycle and preparing financial
statements, bank reconciliation, and payroll. Student will learn to analyze and record business transactions,
prepare basic financial statements for a service business; prepare a bank reconciliation and related journal
entries; and complete a payroll register and maintain related personnel records. Textbook: College Accounting

INTERMEDIATE BOOKKEEPING
This class will focus on accounting for merchandising, notes payable, notes receivable, valuation of receivables,
valuation of plant and equipment, and voucher system. Student will perform journal entries involving accounts
receivable and payable; determine cost of goods sold and ending inventory utilizing various costing methods;
calculate depreciation and maintain plant equipment records, and demonstrate the correct use of a voucher

ADVANCED BOOKKEEPING
Focus is on accounting for partnerships and corporations, departmental accounting, analyzing and interpreting
financial statements, preparing statement of changes in financial position, and accounting for manufacturers.
Student will develop journal entries unique to the partnership and corporate forms of business; identify cash
inflows and outflows and prepare a statement of cash flows; perform financial analyses, and compile a
departmental income statement. (16 Hrs – 1.6 CEU)

ANTIQUES FOR BEGINNERS
A fun introduction to antiques! You’ll learn how to find and identify antiques, learn how to recognize a true
antique, and identify a reproduction. Class will cover furniture and small collectibles: pictures, glass, china, and
porcelain. Final class will include a “show and tell” portion where students may bring in an item for the class to

Is your home décor everything you want it to be? Learn the creative basics of interior design for today’s living.
Analysis and design through the use of color, texture, styles of furniture, arrangements, and coordination of all
design elements. Students will earn to identify and apply elements of design; describe the scope of the interior
design profession; describe the interior design problem solving process; and recognize and evaluate design

This course will focus on the use of the world-wide web and how to create a home page. Web browsers and
HTML will be discussed in detail. Students will use Front Page Express in Windows 98 to build, maintain, and

To register, a registration form and fees must be received by Temple College no later than two days before the

classes. If a class is full when we receive your registration by mail, we will notify you by phone. Registration
may be done in person or by mail. You may register in person at either the Taylor Center or the Temple Campus
or you may call and request a copy of the registration form and return the form and fees by U. S. mail. A one
hundred percent (100%) refund will be given if the class is cancelled by Temple College. A full refund will also
be granted if a student officially withdraws in writing prior to the second class meeting. Requests for refunds
must be made in writing. No refunds will be granted after the class has met two times. Textbooks suggested for
classes will be available at the TC Bookstore, inside Temple College at Taylor.
CHANGES IN PRINTED SCHEDULE
The Continuing Education Division of TC reserves the right to cancel sections due to insufficient enrollment, to
alter the class schedule as printed, and to substitute instructors and/or speakers without notice when necessary.
