Dear KPMG Hiring Manager,
I am a senior at the University of Colorado at Boulder studying Tax in the 5 year Masters of
Accountancy Program. During Meet the Firms, I met with Jon Doe and was very intrigued with
KPMG’s commitment to developing their interns as professionals. I see this internship as the
beginning of a long career in accounting and I know that KPMG would be a rewarding company
to work for. I am writing to express my interest in the 2015 Tax Core Winter Internship. Based
on my ability to communicate effectively, my impeccable organizational skills, and my
experience building Pivot Tables and using the VLOOKUP tool in Excel, I know I would be an
excellent fit for your tax internship position.
In my current position in outside operations at the Denver Country Club, one of my favorite
parts of the job is the consistent interaction I have with members, employees and managers. One
of my strengths is effectively relating with people to ensure accurate and quality execution of
job duties. This as well as other communication skills I have developed in this position would be
a great benefit to your company. Second, I believe that my organization and time management
techniques make me a competitive candidate for this position. When I was 15 years old, I started
a car detailing business which taught me how to satisfy customer needs while effectively
executing a busy schedule. To this day, I implement and improve these skills to balance
academics with part time employment and hobbies. Third, my finance and accounting related
internships have given me opportunities to utilize the VLOOKUP tool to effectively organize
data and then create Pivot Tables to optimally analyze the data. My manager at X Company
stressed that these would be very valuable skills to possess in a public accounting career.
Already knowing how to use these functions, coupled with my self-starting nature, will allow
me to be a more independent intern from the start.
KPMG is the firm I connect with most, as I am impressed by your dedication to cultivating
professionals and building careers that employees are interested in. My educational background,
professional experiences and polished skills would allow me to add value to your company
while growing as a professional. I look forward to the opportunity to discuss this exciting
position with you further! I can be reached at 303-123-4567 or CU.student@colorado.edu
Best regards,
CU Student
