Goal Areas for 2008-2009 Compliance Athletics Personnel Marketing Sales Finances Development Competitive Environment Facilities Involvement Academic Performance Equity and Diversity Environmental Sustainability Goal Area 1 -- Academic Performance Improve our 4-yr APR ranking in the Big 12 Conference to the top half of the conference for each sport program. The one-year APR for each of the sports programs will be greater than 925. An effort will be evident to achieve 100% compliance with the CU honor code. Increase participation in the STEPS program and the program's impact. The number of student-athletes with semester GPA greater than 3.0 will increase from 2007-2008. The number of student-athletes with semester GPA greater than 2.5 will increase from 2007-2008. Goal Area 2 -- Finances The Department will meet its revenue goals. Cost centers will stay within limits of established budgets. Revenues will exceed expenses for FY 2009. Timely, meaningful feedback on finances will be provided in a transparent manner to our constituents. Goal Area 3 -- Competitive Environment Create and sustain a competitive advantage for all intercollegiate athletics sports program through environmental factors, e.g., fan energy, spirit squads, band, multimedia presentations, promotions. Improve the fan experience at our athletic events, e.g., parking, behavior, concessions, traffic flow, amenities for major donors, proximity to the team. Goal Area 4 -- Equity and Diversity Continue to promote, endorse and maintain a high level of awareness and sensitivity to issues related to equity and diversity in the Athletics Department. Embody principles of equity and diversity in hiring practices, advancement and promotion. Place principles of equity at the forefront of consideration in all decision-making processes. Goal Area 5 -- Involvement There will be a significant number of new outreach activities where Intercollegiate Athletics is represented. Athletics will mutually beneficial partnerships with new leadership on the Boulder Campus and at the University. Athletics will seek and achieve representation in the activities and committees of the NCAA and the Big 12. Athletics will maintain a high level of outreach by its staff to the campus and a greater degree of engagement of campus personnel with Athletics. There will be significant development of the faculty network. Athletics will endeavor to engage, in new and effective ways, the student body on the Boulder Campus. Goal Area 6 -- Facilities Design and produce the necessary materials for the Glory Colorado Campaign -- our top priority. Capital projects will be completed in accordance with schedule with an emphasis on efficiency, coordination and communication. The Athletics Master Plan for facilities will be updated to include all projected facility improvements, and will be integrated with the Boulder Campus Master Plan. Goal Area 7 -- Development Meet the number of face-to-face and proposal goals for the CU Foundation (CUF). Meet or exceed the budgeted fund raising goal. Meet or exceed the CUF Stretch Goal. Create, implement and measure constituency stewardship plan. Achieve a seamless, collaborative effort between the CUF and Athletics in areas such as special events, ticketing and marketing. Goal Area 8 -- Marketing/Sales The Department will develop mutually beneficial long term partnerships. Reinforce the organizational structure for marketing and sales. Sales goals will be set and met for football, men's basketball and women's basketball. Improve student attendance at athletic events. A demonstration of a sales emphasis will be evident. Achieve a seamless, collaborative effort between the CUF and Athletics in areas such as special events, ticketing and marketing. Goal Area 9 -- Compliance The Compliance Office will articulate and implement a comprehensive program of rules education for appropriate constituencies. We will foster an open environment that encourages inquiry by Athletics personnel and self-reporting of violations. There will be no repeat violations of specific regulations within the 2007-2008 year. The Compliance Office will demonstrate a higher level of monitoring in accordance with the recommendations of The Compliance Group. Goal Area 10 -- Environmental Sustainability Be a national leader among collegiate athletic programs in environmental sustainability. Demonstrate leadership in supporting the Campus’ overall environmental sustainability goals. Continue to make progress in implementing the Athletics Department Five-Year Sustainability Plan. Make significant progress in reducing carbon emissions and accomplishing zero waste in athletic events and in business practices. Develop our student-athletes to be strong role models both on campus and in the community in supporting environmental awareness. Goal Area 11 -- Athletics Personnel Athletics employees will conduct themselves in a way to reflect a positive image of the Department and the University and embody Athletics' stated values. The SAAC will create a set of behavioral principles for student-athletes that is endorsed by the Department. Evidence will suggest that any violations of these codes of conduct are being addressed directly, promptly and effectively.
