Faculty/Staff UNLV STUDENT CONDUCT CODE PHILOSOPHY The aim of education is the intellectual, personal, social, and ethical development of the individual. The educational process is ideally conducted in an environment that encourages reasoned discourse, intellectual honesty, openness to constructive change, and respect for the rights of all individuals. Self discipline and a respect for the rights of others in the university community are necessary for the fulfillment of such goals. The UNLV Student Conduct Code is designed to promote this environment and sets forth standards of conduct expected of students who choose to join the university community. Students who violate these standards will be subject to conduct sanctions in order to promote their own personal development, to protect the university community, and to maintain order and stability on campus. As citizens of the larger community in which UNLV is located, students have all the responsibilities and rights that are incumbent upon any citizen. The University is concerned with what happens to students both on and off its campuses and holds students responsible for their own actions. STUDENT CONDUCT CODE LEARNING OUTCOMES Although the student conduct process is not often entered into willingly, there are many benefits that the students can gain. As administrators of the conduct process we must provide the challenge and support necessary for students to pursue the following outcomes. Examination of personal beliefs and values. Awareness and utilization of alternative conflict resolution skills. Willingness to accept responsibility for individual actions and the consequences of those actions. Understand the importance of civility as it relates to community.
